Sponsors have been essential in making the Redfish School of Change a reality, and in ensuring the program is affordable and accessible.
Shell Canada is a founding sponsor of the Redfish School of Change. Shell Canada's contribution comes through a joint venture with Chevron Canada and Marathon Canada, and has helped fund the development, pilot phase, and delivery of the program. This generous investment comes from the belief that the Redfish School of Change contributes to the development of young people's environmental literacy and encourages them to become environmental leaders and champions of sustainable living.
The Catherine Donnelly Foundation is a significant
supporter of the Redfish School of Change. The Foundation's vision is
closely aligned with the guiding principles of the Redfish School of Change, particularly in aspiring to a
world that respects and reveres creation; an interdependent society whose structures
enable the poor to live with dignity and to realize their full
potential; a community that is open to
transformation and whose commitment to human solidarity ensures social
and ecological justice.
Green Street is funded by the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation with
the aim of fostering a sense of environmental stewardship among young
people across Canada. Through its Youth Engagement Grants, Green
Street sponsored youth interviews and a youth intern during the
development of the Redfish School of Change, as well as provided financial aid
for students participating in the pilot program.
Funds were received from the Oolichan Fund through the Victoria Foundation to help support the 2011 semester of the Redfish School of Change. The Victoria Foundation is Canada's second oldest community foundation in Canada and the second largest in British Columbia.
Mountain Equipment
Co-op has supported the Redfish School of Change by
making a significant contribution of gear for our wilderness trips. MEC supports community organizations with a vision that Canada will be home to the world's most comprehensive network of parks and protected areas where self-propelled outdoor activity is a primary feature of Canadian culture and lifestyle.
Nature's Path has helped nourish our students and instructors throughout the field school with a tasty and hearty product donation. Nature's Path seeks to be a trusted name for quality organic foods in every home; food that is socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and financially viable.
Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) has supported Redfish through their Sponsorship Program. The objective of CBT's Sponsorship Program is to be responsive to activities in Basin communities that support CBT's mission to create a legacy of social, economic, and environmental well-being.
We would also like to acknowledge the small businesses in the West Kootenays and Victoria region—such as ROAM shop, Mountain Berry Foods, and Ann's Natural Foods—for their kind product donations.
Many people have volunteered their time and energy to support the design, development, and delivery of this unique field school. Special thanks to the anonymous donors who helped fund the research phase of what has flourished to become the Redfish School of Change.
